“‘The suspect is en route to the hospital for immediate treatment,’ the [DOJ] official tells TPM’s Sahil Kapur. ‘But we plan to invoke the public safety exception to Miranda in order to question the suspect extensively about other potential explosive devices or accomplices and to gain critical intelligence.'” The Obama Administration’s Department of Justice [sic] intends to interrogate a murder suspect without advising him of his rights or providing access to legal counsel. This is a massive abuse of police powers in the name of counter-terrorism, and yet another breach of core civil liberties by a supposedly “Progressive” administration. Obama’s record on civil liberties has been absolutely shameful.
