This is the farce that passes for “probable cause †in these United States.
«It was revealed that Lex, the drug dog in question, signaled for drugs 93% of the time, even when there were no drugs present. These findings show that dog sniffs are not accurate and are simply used as a tool to justify a full police search. The findings also indicated that Lex was incorrect roughly 40% of the time.»
Speaking personally and anecdotally for the moment, I can say that *every* single time a narc has ever brought out a dog to sniff my car, 100% of the time that dog has given a false positive. It is not the dog’s fault, of course. They are just doing what they know will please their handler. The fault lies in anyone who is dumb enough to take this farcical hocus-pocus seriously.
Also, of course, the first and last real problem here is that anyone is searching for drugs in the first place. There is no reason why Amy cop should ever perform a drug search, because there is no reason why drugs should be illegal.
