In which (*) a book that says “Although these letters are dismissed by most of Lee’s biographers as exaggerated, or simply as unfounded abolitionist propaganda, they are hard to ignore. . . .” is quoted to say “these letters are dismissed by most of Lee’s biographers as exaggerated or simply as unfounded abolitionist propaganda.”
