Ruins of the convent and the public fountain at Carmo, em Lisboa. This is right in the heart of downtown Lisboa (you can see it on the crest of a hill above Rossio square, if you are in the Baixa; or you can walk directly there by winding through a couple of streets in Chiado; the Santa Justa Lift is connected to the square by a metal walkway). Today the Largo is a very pretty square, cooled by the shade from the trees and the buildings, where people gather in a low-key way in the evenings. Possibly my favorite place in all of Lisboa to sit and relax or read, especially in the early morning or in the evening.
